Getting to Manhattan
New York City is served by three major airports. LaGuardia airport (LGA) in northern Queens serves mainly domestic airline routes, while most international flights go through John F. Kennedy International (JFK), located in south-eastern Queens and Newark Liberty International (EWR) in New Jersey. Each airport has its advantages and disadvantages, but when comparing airfare to New York City, make sure to check flights and prices at all three airports. Quite often there are significant differences in the prices.

Where to Stay In New York City
To really get a feel for New York City, there's nothing quite like staying in Manhattan. However, hotel rooms are getting more and more expensive and for many people it would just take too much out of the budget for other activities. Across the Hudson River in New Jersey, you can usually find some really good deals, with many hotels offering free shuttle service into Manhattan. Check out accommodations in places like Weehawken, Hoboken, Union City, Secaucus, Jersey City and Teaneck.
If you insist on having the full experience of NYC, check out hotels on the Upper West Side. The UWS is the setting for the popular Seinfeld TV show and it's a great place to stay when visiting the city. It's quieter than most other areas and will give you a real taste of residential life in Manhattan. The UWS also gives easy access to most other areas in the city through the subway.
